SANGILO MINES INSPECTED
The inspection team after the tunnel visit.
Basing on a request from the Sangguniang Bayan of Itogon, the regional mining bureau head RD Fay W. Apil dispatched a team of engineers from the Mine Management Division to join an ocular inspection inside the mining tunnels of Itogon-Suyoc Resources, Inc. (ISRI) in Sangilo, Poblacion, Itogon, Benguet.
On February 5, 2020, around twenty people went underground on Levels 1 and 0 to conduct the initial ocular inspection which stemmed from a complaint filed with the municipal council of Itogon alleging that ISRI is mining beyond its patented area. The team checked the veracity of the allegations. In the post-inspection meeting, it was agreed that a technical team composed of engineers from Itogon LGU and MGB-CAR will project the data gathered from a more detailed survey on the surface to prove or disprove claims of the complainants.
The inspection team was composed of representatives from the local government unit of Itogon led by municipal councilor Dax Godio, Benguet Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) Roger Kenny, barangay officials from Dalicno, and Engrs. Bugnosen, Aliado and Kub-aron of MGB-CAR.
