MINING COMMUNITIES RECEIVE ASSISTANCE AMID COVID-19 CRISIS

Host communities for mining companies in Itogon receive at least 1.5M worth of assistance from Philex Mining Corporation (PMC) on March 31, 2020.
Barangays Ansagan and Camp 3 in Tuba; and Barangay Ampucao in Itogon were beneficiaries of rice assistance from the realigned Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) budget of the mining company.
At least 700 families were benefited in Camp 3, Tuba and 243 families in Ampucao, Itogon. A check benefiting 390 families in Ansagan, Tuba will be released to the barangay. The funds were sourced out from the unspent 2018, 2019 SDMP budgets for Trainings, Bereavement Assistance and Health Insurance, and 2020 Contingency Fund.
This activity is in response to the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Director Wilfredo Moncano’s memorandum dated March 27, 2020, which allows mining companies to realign unutilized SDMP funds to assist host and neighboring communities during the Enhanced Community Quarantine Period.
MGB Regional Directors were instructed to implement said memorandum to support affected impact and non-impact communities due to COVID-19 and pursuant to the executive memorandum declaring the quarantine over Luzon.
