ITOGON SB REQUESTS MGB-CAR AFFIRMATION ON PMC'S TSF PROJECT
Itogon SB in session for PMC's TSF presentation
June 5, 2020. Itogon, Benguet. A meeting between representatives of Philex Mining Company (PMC) and the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) members of Itogon was convened at the SB Hall of Itogon municipality to discuss the plans and activities of the mining company for their Tailings Storage Facility No. 1 (TSF 1) and 745 ML Slimes Recovery Project.
PMC presented that the proposed activity at TSF1 aims to recover the spillages and grind out from the Banget Mill Plan that was impounded in the area during the past operations. Likewise, the underground effluents and spillages that drains through the 745 ML Drain Tunnel Portal is being recovered through the constructed decantation pond and upgraded sluice canals thereat. These recovery projects were primarily intended to supplement the decreasing production volume and dwindling mineral reserves of the company’s operations.
The TSF1 Spillage Recovery Project was affirmed by the MGB-CAR representative to have been included in the submitted Revised 3-Year Development/Utilization Work Program (3YD/UWP) covering 2018-2020 of PMC to MGB Central Office, which is presently under review and approval by the said office. Moreover, PMC submitted during the meeting a copy of the Certificate of Approval (COA) for its Annual Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program (AEPEP) 2020, including the proposed amendments containing the inclusion of the TSF1 Spillage Recovery Project.
Said program was also submitted for review and approval of the Mine Rehabilitation Fund Committee.
The activity was convened upon request of the SB Committees on Environment; Finance and Ways and Means; and Ancestral Concerns and Cultural Affairs. Aside from the members of the Itogon Municipal Council, representatives from DENR-CENRO, NCIP-Itogon and MGB-CAR attended the meeting.
