On May 12, 2021, members of the Provincial Mining Regulatory Board of Mountain Province (PMRB-MP) held a board meeting at Bontoc, Mountain Province for the ceremonial signing and awarding of the Small Scale Mining Contract NO. 001-2021-CAR,

to the Northern Sagada Barangay Small Scale Mining Association, Inc. (NSBSSMAI) of Barangay Fedilisan, Sagada, Mountain Province.

Before the ceremonial signing and awarding of contract, background history of the application was presented to the body for information followed by the evaluation of compliance and explanation to the required necessary documents for the Small Scale Mining Contract (SSMC) by the PMRB Technical Working Group of Mountain Province.

Also, during the meeting, the Municipal and Provincial Local Government of Mountain Province expressed their gratitude to the Provincial Mining Regulatory Board Technical Staff for their efforts during the application of the Association for declaration of a Minahang Bayan and this time for granting the Small Scale Mining Contract.  Futhermore, Hon. James B. Pooten Jr., Municipal Mayor of Sagada, said “The municipality of Sagada also accompanied the association by giving their commitment for their safety. We are also committed to support and obliged to monitor their operation to not sacrifice the environment. We permit to have one rule to follow.”

The Northern Sagada Barangay Small Scale Mining Association, Inc. (NSBSSMAI) initially filed its application for a Small Scale Mining Contract late February 2021. Following its declaration as Minahang Bayan Area by the same Board on November 17, 2020.
