DENR-CAR Appeals for Cooperation from the Miners of Itogon
Hundreds of small scale miners from the different barangays of the municipality of Itogon attended the meeting convened by Itogon Mayor Victorio Palangdan on September 28, 2018, at the gymnasium of Bua ITC, Itogon.
The forum was called to inform the miners of the strict implementation of the Stoppage Order for all small scale mining operations in the area. This ensued after DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu gave the cease and desist order for all illegal small scale mining operations in the region. He subsequently revoked the temporary permits granted to some groups in the province of Benguet.
In his remarks, Mayor Palangdan appealed to all small scale miners to voluntarily cease their operations and close their respective adits. This will show that Itogon miners are following government orders.
Engr. Gacad also called on the miners to comply with all the requirements for the declaration of a Minahang Bayan Area in their municipality, until such time an area will be declared as Minahang Bayan and Small Scale Mining Contracts are awarded, all small scale mining activities should stop.
